Valerian Root contains compounds like actinidine similar to those also found in silvervine. These compounds can stimulate cats behaviours resulting in rolling and rubbing. Whilst valerian is not as studied as catnip it is a fact many cats enjoy it. However the effect is often one of stimulation as opposed to calming in humans.
